Utilities & Transmission

The UK’s electricity transmission network is currently undergoing significant investment to support the renewable energy transition. Over 30 major projects are in the pipeline - including the Eastern Green Links projects, comprising two high-capacity submarine HVDC cables connecting Scotland and England with a combined capacity of 4GW and an estimated cost of £3.4bn.

Such ongoing major infrastructure projects - supported by the establishment of the National Energy System Operator and Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment Framework, which will fast-track approvals and streamline the connection process for new projects - offers myriad opportunities for the supply chain.

High capacity submarine HVDC cables connecting Scotland and England

As a trusted specialist in high-voltage (HV) cable installation, jointing, commissioning, Global Power Services is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the planned growth in the market - initially as a sub-contractor to Cable Suppliers and Tier 1 contractors, but with the the intention of bidding directly (following recent investment from our parent company, Global) for high value framework contracts with major network providers.

Looking ahead to Ofgem’s RIIO4 initiative - Global Power Services has the platform to contract to the DNOs/NG as a main contractor. Partnering with other Global companies in the utilities, energy and renewable sectors, we have the capability to deliver a range of comprehensive end-to-end solutions - from planning and design to HV cable installation, jointing, and now, high-voltage commissioning - for major renewable energy projects.
